About this project
110 cooperative solar panels on the new Sports Hall 2 of sports complex De Soeverein in Lommel, installed together with City of Lommel and EGS Group. With a capacity of 46.75 kWp, the installation produces approximately 42,000 kWh annually — sufficient for the consumption of approximately 12 households — and saves about 9 tons of CO₂ per year. Operational since October 2024.
De Soeverein is a modern sports and events complex that houses various community activities. The installation demonstrates Lommel's commitment to renewable energy, building on existing infrastructure including the Kristal solar park.
Financing is entirely through citizen investment. Local residents become co-owners and can purchase locally produced green electricity at favorable rates. Profits flow back to the community through dividend distributions and reinvestments in sustainability initiatives.
