Wind Turbines Genk-South

Genk

Bronsgroen, the city of Genk and Ecopower are jointly building two cooperative wind turbines on the Genk-South industrial estate, with commissioning scheduled for spring 2028. The turbines will produce between 16,000 and 18,000 MWh of green electricity annually — enough for 5,000 to 6,000 households — and save 4,875 to 6,300 tons of CO₂. Genk-South is Limburg's largest industrial park and one of the most important in Flanders, with an area of 1,400 hectares and excellent connections via road, rail and canal. Major employers include Aperam, ArcelorMittal and the Port of Limburg. The broader Zuidwind wind farm currently includes 21 turbines that supply electricity to approximately 28,000 households. Zuidwind 2.0, approved in March 2024, allows for up to 14 additional turbines. Upon full realization, there will be 39 turbines, making it one of Flanders' largest onshore wind farms. Citizens and SMEs can become co-owners through cooperative investment with Ecopower or Bronsgroen. The total investment amounts to €5,000,000, shared with Ecopower.

The Harmony – OCMW Wellen

Wellen

80 cooperative solar panels on the roof of De Harmonie, a well-known meeting point for residents of Wellen. The installation produces more than 26,600 kWh annually — enough for 7 to 8 Flemish households — and saves approximately 9.25 tons of CO₂ per year. De Harmonie is the home base of the Royal Harmonie De Kluchtige Vrienden and serves as a cultural meeting space for the municipality. Through the cooperative model, local residents become co-owners of the installation. The generated electricity is primarily consumed locally by the municipality at favorable rates. The surplus is shared with other municipal buildings through the energy-sharing principle, including the Social House and childcare facility. The solar panels and inverter have been installed. We are now awaiting the official inspection of the installation, after which green electricity production can begin.

Youth Home De Reynaert

Wellen

60 cooperative solar panels on the roof of Youth Hostel De Reynaert in Wellen, providing an annual production of approximately 23,000 kWh — equivalent to the consumption of 6 to 7 Flemish households. This saves us almost 8 tons of CO₂ annually. The youth hostel is a quietly located youth accommodation near the open-air swimming pool Malpertus and nature reserve De Grote Beemd, where youth groups can come for activities, camps and meetings in a green environment. Bronsgroen was selected through the framework contract of the Flemish Energy Company as a supplier for the cooperative financing of the PV installation. The generated electricity is primarily consumed by municipal buildings at a favorable rate. The surplus is distributed to other municipal buildings via the energy sharing principle, and the remainder goes to the cooperative members who receive green electricity as Ecopower customers. The solar panels and inverter have been installed. We are now awaiting the official inspection of the installation, after which green electricity production can begin.

Wind Turbine Bilzen Kieleberg

Bilzen

The first cooperative wind turbine in Limburg, located on the Kieleberg business park in Bilzen. A Vestas V100, 175 meters high, which produces approximately 5,500,000 kWh of green electricity annually — enough for about 2,700 households — and saves more than 2,000 tons of CO₂ per year. Operational since July 2024, officially inaugurated on 8 September 2024. The project originated from a dream of Herman Stulens in 2014: affordable green electricity for his municipality through a wind turbine in citizens' hands. After a lengthy permit process from 2017 to 2022, construction started in 2023 with delivery and assembly of components in spring 2024. Bronsgroen participates in this wind project through a loan without ownership rights. You can subscribe to shares in Bronsgroen cv at €125 each.
